Mumbai, July 2 (NationPress) NCP (Sharad Pawar) faction MLA Rohit Pawar vehemently criticized Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for his comments regarding the Congress party and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, accusing the BJP of misrepresenting historical facts and sowing confusion among citizens.
During the election for the Maharashtra BJP state president on Tuesday, Rijiju claimed that the Congress had disrespected Dr. Ambedkar and suggested that the architect of the Indian Constitution passed away prematurely due to the stress attributed to the party and his electoral setbacks.
Pawar retaliated by defending the Congress, asserting that the BJP is spreading false narratives about history.
In an interview with IANS, he stated, "BJP leaders do not speak the truth. They consistently attempt to alter history. Whether it is the RSS or the BJP, or individuals who share their ideology, they do not contribute to this country's history; they manipulate it through various mediums. This is why they issue controversial statements, attempting to create confusion among the populace."
The NCP (SP) leader also addressed recent discussions indicating that the Congress might contest the upcoming BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections independently.
A faction of Maharashtra Congress leaders, in a recent meeting held in Delhi, reportedly supported the idea of entering the civic elections alone, expressing concerns about being marginalized within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP).
In response, Pawar downplayed these developments, suggesting that such remarks may only represent personal viewpoints.
"There are major Municipal Corporations -- Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Kolhapur. All leaders will convene to decide the strategy. I doubt that a few leaders expressing such sentiments, which could be their personal opinions, will significantly influence the elections. Ultimately, the decision will involve consultation with the party's district heads of smaller Municipal Corporations," he commented.
