Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) On Friday, the government sanctioned the construction of a road over bridge (ROB) at Deendayal Port in Gujarat, involving an investment of Rs 132.51 crore.
This initiative marks a vital move to enhance port-led development across the nation, as confirmed by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.
“This venture exemplifies our dedication to establishing modern, efficient, and uninterrupted port-led connectivity under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ROB at Deendayal Port will eliminate crucial bottlenecks, enhance cargo transit, and bolster India’s logistics performance,” Sonowal stated.
In alignment with the Sagarmala Programme and PM Gati Shakti, “we are developing integrated infrastructure that stimulates trade, boosts safety, and supports economic advancement. This is a pivotal step towards creating world-class port infrastructure and solidifying India’s status as a global maritime hub,” the minister continued.
The project is a key component of the flagship Sagarmala Programme and is consistent with the aims of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which seeks to enhance multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency throughout the country. The construction is currently executed by Western Railway on a deposit basis.
The proposal underwent recent evaluation by the Delegated Investment Board (DIB) in a meeting led by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
The updated project cost was reviewed to assure adherence to contemporary safety standards and technical specifications.
The proposed ROB represents a crucial infrastructure solution aimed at mitigating existing logistical challenges at the port.
By facilitating seamless transit across the rail crossing, this project will remove bottlenecks, guarantee an uninterrupted flow of port-bound cargo, and significantly enhance operational efficiency at Deendayal Port.
Once completed, it is anticipated to alleviate congestion, expedite cargo evacuation, and strengthen the overall maritime logistics framework of the country, as per the ministry.
