Nagpur, Oct 2 (NationPress) The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is set to commence its centenary year celebrations on Vijayadashami in Nagpur on Thursday, marking a century since its inception by Dr. K.B. Hedgewar in 1925.
Senior leaders of the Sangh, including Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar, Vidarbha Prant Sanghachalak Deepak Tamshettiwar, and Nagpur Mahanagar Sanghachalak Rajesh Loya, addressed the media regarding the event during a press conference held on September 22 at Dattopant Thengdi Sabhagruha within the Hedgewar Smruti Mandir premises in Reshimbag, Nagpur.
Starting this Vijayadashami and continuing until the next, the Sangh will observe a 'Shatabdi Varsha', reflecting its evolution from a modest assembly at Dr. Hedgewar's home with just 17 members to a sprawling nationwide network operating over 83,000 shakhas.
As per tradition, the Vijayadashami utsav will take place at the Reshimbag Ground in Nagpur.
Extensive security measures are in place, anticipating a large turnout this year. Former President Ram Nath Kovind will serve as the chief guest, while RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat will deliver the keynote speech.
This year’s festivities are projected to attract a record number of participants, with thousands of swayamsevaks attending in full uniform.
Whereas 7,000 swayamsevaks participated last year, the current turnout is expected to be nearly threefold.
Dignitaries from across India and internationally are also anticipated, highlighting the global attention the RSS centenary celebrations have received.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in centenary celebrations at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. He referred to the RSS as a 'virtuous incarnation of an eternal national consciousness' and noted its impact on every aspect of national life.
He also unveiled a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and coin to honor the RSS’s contributions to the nation.
Highlighting the organization’s core philosophy, PM Modi remarked that the RSS is committed to character building in service of nation-building, encouraging individuals to transcend the self and embrace collective unity—from 'I' to 'We'.
Founded in 1925 in Nagpur by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS began as a volunteer-led initiative focused on fostering cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility.
Over the past century, it has grown into one of India's most influential socio-cultural organizations, with its centenary symbolizing a major milestone in its development.
