Dharmendra Pradhan Declares Saffron Tsunami Ahead of Bengal Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) As the Assembly elections approach, campaigning in West Bengal is reaching a fever pitch. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has proclaimed that a significant political transformation is on the horizon for the state.
In an interview with IANS, Pradhan stated, “A saffron tsunami is on the way. Change is inevitable. I’m traversing West Bengal, and the people's apprehension is dissipating. They desire to break free from the oppression. Over the last 15 years, Mamata Banerjee has misled the citizens of Bengal.”
These comments come as senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ramp up their campaign across the state, which is scheduled to hold elections in two phases later this month, on April 23 and April 29.
On Tuesday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh kicked off a nomination rally in Barrackpore, marking the party's determined efforts in crucial constituencies. Meanwhile, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal arrived in Kolkata from Delhi to support the election campaign and enhance the party's outreach initiatives.
BJP candidate Arjun Singh addressed concerns regarding the electoral rolls, affirming, “The names of deceased voters, duplicate voters, Rohingya, and Bangladeshi Muslims have been removed, ensuring the Election Commission has produced a clean and precise voter list.”
At the constituency level, BJP candidate Shankar Guchait, who is contesting from the 236 Midnapore Sadar Assembly seat, has launched his campaign, contributing to the escalating political activity across various districts.
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a large public meeting in Cooch Behar district, where he criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress government, citing issues of lawlessness and alleged misgovernance. He also referenced an incident in Malda district where judicial officials were reportedly taken hostage by a mob, which necessitated intervention from the Supreme Court.
PM Modi asserted that if the BJP gains power, they will prioritize industrialization, enhancing farmers’ incomes, ensuring women’s safety, and creating employment opportunities in the state.
Conversely, Trinamool Congress leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has escalated her campaigning efforts, addressing public meetings in Samsherganj, Jiaganj, and Azimganj, and participating in a roadshow in Baharampur in Murshidabad district.
Other political entities, including the Congress and Left parties, are also intensifying their campaigns through smaller public meetings across West Bengal, making the electoral landscape increasingly competitive as voting dates approach.
