Jammu, Feb 17 (NationPress) Authorities in the Samba district of J&K announced on Monday that a total of 12 FIRs have been filed against property owners for failing to submit tenant information to the police for background verification.
An official stated that the Samba Police initiated action against house and landowners as part of an ongoing campaign aimed at verifying tenants and outsiders residing in the Samba district.
“This verification initiative targets individuals residing as tenants or domestic aides. During the operation, four cases were logged at Police Station Samba, three at Police Bari Brahmana, another three at Police Station Ramgarh, and one each at Police Stations Vijaypur and Ghagwal, all under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” the official explained.
He further mentioned that the twelve FIRs recorded under section 223 BNS include FIR Nos. 48/2025, 49/2025, 50/2025, and 51/2025 from PS Samba; FIR Nos. 24/2025, 25/2025, and 26/2025 from PS Bari Brahmana; FIR Nos. 09/2025, 10/2025, and 11/2025 from PS Ramgarh; FIR No. 19/2025 from PS Vijaypur; and FIR No. 27/2025 from PS Ghagwal.
The District Magistrate of Samba has mandated the police verification of tenants; however, the individuals charged have not complied with the order for tenant verification.
“The SSP Samba has called upon local residents to promptly provide complete details of their tenants and domestic helpers to the nearest police station to facilitate timely police verification,” the official added.
He noted that the verification process became vital due to reports of unauthorized tenants with potentially dubious backgrounds surfacing in the district.
Furthermore, he highlighted that Samba is a border district with the international border (IB) running throughout its length, where the presence of suspicious tenants poses a significant security concern that must be addressed.
