Sanjay Seth, MoS Defence, Faces Rs 50 Lakh Extortion Threat; Investigation Launched

New Delhi, Dec 7 (NationPress) Union Minister of State (MoS) for Defence, Sanjay Seth, announced on Saturday that the Delhi Police is actively investigating a threatening communication he received, which demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh.

The MoS stated that the extortion message was sent to his mobile device on Friday evening.

Following this, Seth promptly informed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) about the threat that same evening and convened with senior officials from the Delhi Police at his residence in Delhi to discuss the situation.

In a conversation with IANS regarding the incident, Seth expressed, "I notified the Delhi Police about this yesterday. The DCP and other senior officials are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter with full diligence."

The MoS also contacted Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta to file an official complaint.

Emphasizing the urgency of resolving the situation, Seth remarked, "My duty was to report this incident, and I have done so. Following the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I continue to concentrate on my responsibilities, visiting various areas and engaging with the public as usual. The police are performing their duties effectively."

When questioned about the law-and-order situation in Jharkhand, the MoS for Defence avoided giving a direct response, stating, "This inquiry should be directed towards the Chief Minister and the DGP. They hold the responsibility for maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety."

Reports indicate that the individual demanding ransom warned the Ranchi MP of dire consequences should the payment not be made within three days.

Initial investigations have traced the mobile number used for the threat to Kanke, a locality in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The investigation into this extortion attempt is ongoing as authorities strive to identify and capture the perpetrators.
