Ranchi, March 17 (NationPress) The Jharkhand High Court has offered a significant reprieve to 18 leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, including state President Babulal Marandi, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Rajya Sabha MPs Pradeep Verma and Deepak Prakash, along with Dhanbad MP Dulu Mahato.
A bench presided over by Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary instructed the annulment of the FIR lodged against these individuals in relation to a confrontation with law enforcement during the Yuva Aakrosh Rally held in Ranchi in August of the previous year.
The rally, which was organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on August 23, 2024, at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi, focused on pressing issues such as unemployment, discrepancies in government job examinations, delays in result announcements, and the regularization of contract workers.
It was reported that following the rally, numerous BJP supporters attempted to breach police barricades while proceeding towards the Chief Minister's residence, resulting in a tumultuous encounter with the police.
In the aftermath of the incident, an FIR was filed at Lalpur police station in Ranchi against 51 identified BJP leaders, including Babulal Marandi, former minister Arjun Munda, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and former Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri, along with 12,000 unidentified individuals.
The accusations encompassed inciting riots, breaching government orders, obstructing official duties, and causing injury to others.
The FIR asserted that even after multiple warnings and the enforcement of prohibitory orders, BJP leaders and supporters disregarded these directives, throwing stones at police officers and inciting the audience to launch attacks.
The FIR implicated seven MPs — B.D. Ram, Aditya Sahu, Deepak Prasad, Pradeep Verma, Vidyut Varan Mahto, Manish Jaiswal, and Dulu Mahato — alongside 17 MLAs including Neelkanth Singh Munda, Randhir Singh, Neera Yadav, Ramchandra Chandravanshi, Aparna Sengupta, Kushwaha Shashi Bhushan Mehta, Pushpa Devi, Samari Lal, Kedar Hazra, Raj Sinha, Naveen Jaiswal, Narayan Das, Amit Mandal, Alok Chaurasia, and Kishun Kumar Das.
The 18 BJP leaders contested the FIR in the Jharkhand High Court. After consideration of the case, the court ruled in their favor, providing significant relief.
