Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) A remarkable gathering of 900 women entrepreneurs from 28 states is underway at the ‘SARAS Aajeevika Mela-2026’ – a spectacular fair celebrating Lakhpati Didis – in Gurugram, led by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, as announced by officials on Tuesday.
The Mela aims to showcase the vibrant colors of India’s rural heritage, folk arts, and the spirit of women’s entrepreneurship, taking place at the Leisure Valley Park Ground in Sector-29 from February 10 to February 26, according to an official statement.
Over 450 stalls have been established at the venue, presenting a diverse array of products from Kashmir's Pashmina in the north to Tamil Nadu's silk in the south, and from Rajasthan's embroidery in the west to Assam's bamboo crafts in the east, all available in one location.
Swati Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, informed the media that 10 crore women across the nation are organized under the “Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Rural Livelihood Mission”.
She also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the target of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis, with 2.9 crore having already achieved this status by December 2025, indicating that the target is within reach.
Sharma emphasized a crucial financial aspect, stating that the integrity and financial advancement of Self-Help Group women have bolstered their confidence in the banking sector.
She revealed that the NPA (non-performing asset) rate of Self-Help Groups in various states has decreased to less than 2 percent, demonstrating that rural women are timely in repaying their loans while becoming adept in financial management.
During the press briefing, several successful women entrepreneurs shared their journeys and achievements.
Many recounted their transformation from having no income to becoming self-sufficient, thanks to their involvement in self-help groups and the benefits of government initiatives, enabling them to not only support their families but also create jobs for other women.
The Lakhpati Didi Pavilion at the fair highlights the stories of these empowered women.
A standout feature of this year’s SARAS fair is the ‘Knowledge and Learning Pavilion’, where daily workshops will be conducted for women entrepreneurs. These sessions will cover essential topics such as packaging, branding, crafting business proposals, and social media marketing.
