Setback for AAP as Former MLA Sukhbir Dalal Shifts to BJP

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) In a notable political shift, former MLA and dedicated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Sukhbir Dalal affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) this Saturday. The announcement took place during a press conference at the Delhi BJP headquarters, attended by Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, BJP state president Virendra Sachdeva, and various senior party leaders.
Joining Dalal was Balbir Singh, an executive member of the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee from Vivek Vihar.
Dalal, who previously served as an AAP MLA for Mundka, emphasized that his choice to switch parties was not influenced by a lack of a ticket but rather his belief in the BJP's policies.
"Since the construction of Arvind Kejriwal's 'Sheesh Mahal', corruption within AAP has reached unprecedented levels," Dalal stated.
He criticized the AAP administration for prioritizing corruption over development and neglecting the needs of rural areas in Delhi.
Dalal acknowledged the BJP’s support for his initiatives aimed at advancing development projects in rural Delhi.
After joining the party, he expressed gratitude and pledged to contribute to the nation’s advancement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This transition follows a recent trend of AAP leaders defecting to the BJP in anticipation of the Assembly elections.
Recently, Delhi Ministers Kailash Gahlot and Harsharan Singh Balli also joined the BJP, along with several other AAP figures.
Balbir Singh cited his admiration for PM Modi's policies as a key reason for his transition.
"The Prime Minister has made significant strides for the Sikh community, which motivated my decision to join the BJP," he stated.
Singh emphasized his electoral success as a member of the Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee, noting that his appeal spans beyond religious affiliations.
He commended the BJP and the Delhi Lieutenant Governor for their recent efforts benefiting the Sikh community. Singh contrasted this with the inaction of other parties, remarking, "While many discuss 1984, they have failed to provide jobs or opportunities. The BJP has delivered both support and employment opportunities."
With the Delhi Assembly elections set for February 2025, the AAP is facing growing obstacles as it aims for a third consecutive term. In the 2020 elections, the party achieved a resounding victory, claiming 62 out of 70 seats.
This political realignment adds to the increasing challenges for AAP as it prepares to defend its stronghold in the forthcoming elections.
