Bhopal, June 5 (NationPress) In a devastating incident at Sohagi Pahadi, a notorious accident hotspot in Rewa district along the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border, seven individuals tragically lost their lives.

This calamity unfolded when a truck loaded with cement poles overturned, crushing an auto-rickshaw and claiming seven lives while injuring two others.

The mishap occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, as reported by Udit Mishra, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Teonthar, a tehsil in Rewa district.

“The auto-rickshaw, which was transporting passengers returning from Prayagraj, was hit by the truck traveling from the same city towards Rewa. Six deceased persons were transported to Teonthar Hospital, and four injured victims were initially taken to Gangev Hospital before being referred to Sanjay Gandhi Medical College in Rewa. Unfortunately, one of the injured later succumbed to their injuries during treatment, increasing the death toll to seven,” he informed IANS.

Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and working to identify the victims. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Police reports suggest the accident happened when the truck attempted to overtake the auto-rickshaw while navigating a narrow section of the elevated road.

Among the deceased were a man, a woman, and two children who were traveling in the auto-rickshaw, all of whom died instantly. They hailed from Nai Garhi in Mauganj district and were returning home after a sacred dip in the Ganges.

While the precise number of passengers in the auto-rickshaw is still uncertain, initial reports suggest that at least eight people were aboard.

In a similar incident just a day prior, a cement mixer truck overturned in Jhabua district, resulting in the immediate deaths of nine individuals.

Sohagi Pahadi is notorious for fatal accidents. In October 2022, a catastrophic crash at this location resulted in 15 fatalities and approximately 40 injuries when a bus carrying nearly 100 passengers from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur collided with a trolley in the early hours.
