Kochi, Feb 11 (NationPress) A Kerala court has found Shine Tom Chacko, the acclaimed Malayalam actor, and six other individuals not guilty in a 2015 drug case, which was notably considered Kerala's first cocaine-related incident.

The First Additional District and Sessions Judge in Ernakulam determined that the prosecution was unable to provide adequate evidence to support the charges against the defendants under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

In January 2015, following a tip-off, law enforcement officials conducted a raid on a flat near Kochi, resulting in the arrest of Chacko along with four female models. Authorities filed a case under the NDPS Act, claiming cocaine use during a party.

A total of eight individuals were implicated in the case. While one suspect evaded capture, the remaining seven, including Chacko, underwent trial. After nearly a decade of legal proceedings, the court on Tuesday acquitted all defendants due to insufficient evidence.

The 41-year-old actor commenced his career in the film industry as an assistant director, dedicating nearly nine years to working alongside veteran filmmaker Kamal. He made his acting debut in Gaddama in 2011, after which his career flourished, establishing him as one of the most sought-after actors in Malayalam cinema.

Despite the challenges posed by the 2015 case, Chacko rebounded, showcasing his impressive range and talent in diverse roles.

In 2024 alone, he has featured in over a dozen films, with several prominent projects on the horizon, including collaborations with Malayalam icons Mammootty and Mohanlal. His career has also expanded to include ventures in Tamil and Telugu films, as well as notable appearances in Hindi cinema.

Renowned for his ability to effortlessly transition between lead, negative, and comedic roles, Chacko has established himself as a multifaceted performer in the South Indian film industry.
