Gandhinagar/Bhuj, March 16 (NationPress) An LPG carrier named Shivalik has successfully docked at Mundra Port in Gujarat on Monday, having navigated the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz amidst rising tensions in West Asia. This noteworthy event was brought to the forefront in the state Legislative Assembly by government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani.

During his address, Vaghani noted that the vessel, which was carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), made it to the Gujarat coast despite ongoing conflicts involving nations like Iran and Israel.

He underscored the importance of the ship's safe transit, particularly in light of the war-like conditions in the Gulf, through which a significant portion of India's energy imports travel.

The minister confirmed that the ship successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz and reached Mundra Port without any incidents.

Additionally, Vaghani informed the Assembly that another LPG carrier, Nanda Devi, had also traversed the strait and is anticipated to arrive on Tuesday.

“The LPG-laden Shivalik has safely navigated the Strait of Hormuz and landed on Gujarat's soil at Mundra Port,” Vaghani shared with the legislators.

He commended the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India's diplomatic relations with regional nations played a crucial role in ensuring safe passage for these vessels.

“Thanks to the Prime Minister's guidance, India's diplomatic stature on the world stage has significantly risen. This has allowed Indian ships to navigate safely even amid such unrest,” he declared.

Vaghani also compared this situation to India's evacuation efforts during the Russia–Ukraine war, highlighting similar diplomatic capabilities that facilitated safe maritime transit.

He expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Gujarat through the Assembly.

The arrival of Shivalik comes at a crucial moment when concerns regarding energy supply chains have heightened due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

India imports a substantial portion of its LPG from the Middle East, making this narrow maritime passage vital for the country's fuel shipments.

The vessel transported approximately 46,000 metric tonnes of LPG and docked at Mundra around 5 p.m. on Monday.

Officials and reports indicate that India's diplomatic engagements with regional authorities have aided in the movement of some vessels bound for India through this waterway, despite the continuing volatility in the Gulf.

The successful arrival of Shivalik and the anticipated docking of Nanda Devi are considered pivotal developments for India's LPG supply chain amidst ongoing uncertainty affecting shipping in the Gulf.
