Bhopal, Aug 9 (NationPress) On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed his joy in contributing to women's empowerment. He emphasized that empowering women in social, economic, and political realms will elevate India significantly, noting that the BJP government has been tirelessly working towards this goal.
"My primary aim is to empower our Ladli Behnas (sisters) socially, economically, and politically, and it brings me immense satisfaction to enhance their lives," stated Minister Chouhan during an interview with IANS in Bhopal.
Chouhan participated in a large-scale Raksha Bandhan event at his official residence, fondly named 'Mama Ka Ghar' in Bhopal.
He remarked, "Raksha Bandhan symbolizes the bond of commitment between brothers and sisters, and this festival motivates me to strive for new initiatives on behalf of our sisters," added the former Chief Minister.
Chouhan, a prominent BJP leader who served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh for over 17 years from 2005 to 2023, is highly regarded in the state for the welfare programs initiated during his leadership.
Through his 'Ladli Laxmi Yojana', a cash incentive for newborn girls launched over a decade ago, he not only earned the affectionate title 'Mama' but also bolstered his political stature.
During his last term as Chief Minister, Chouhan launched the Ladli Behna Yojana, promoting the campaign with great enthusiasm leading up to its launch on August 10, 2023.
This strategic move came as the BJP faced rising anti-incumbency in the state. Thanks to the popularity of development initiatives and the Ladli Behna Yojana, which debuted just months before the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP secured a remarkable victory, winning 163 out of 230 seats.
Despite his achievements, the central BJP leadership opted to replace Shivraj Singh Chouhan with Mohan Yadav as Chief Minister, signifying a shift in the state party leadership.
Notably, Yadav has continued the Ladli Behna Yojana despite financial challenges, recently announcing an increase in the monthly assistance to Rs 1,500 starting from the upcoming Diwali festival.
