Bhopal, July 9 (NationPress) In a celebratory move ahead of Raksha Bandhan, the Madhya Pradesh state cabinet convened on Wednesday to endorse an additional Rs 250 as a “special gift” for 1.27 crore women beneficiaries enrolled in the Ladli Behna Yojana.
This newly introduced bonus, referred to as ‘Raksha Bandhan Shagun’, raises the overall monthly support to Rs 1,500 for the month of August 2025.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav previously announced this initiative during a public gathering in Bargi, Jabalpur, affirming the government’s pledge to progressively increase the monthly assistance to Rs 3,000.
“This Raksha Bandhan, beneficiaries will receive Rs 250, as the cabinet has approved the proposal,” stated Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister, following the Cabinet meeting. He added, “This added amount is aimed at enabling women to celebrate the festival with dignity and joy.
Launched in June 2023, the Ladli Behna Yojana is designed to empower married women aged 21 to 60 with direct financial support. The scheme initially provided Rs 1,000 per month, which was later increased to Rs 1,250 during Raksha Bandhan 2023.
This latest enhancement underscores the state’s commitment to bolstering women’s economic independence and social security.
During the event, Dr Yadav also transferred Rs 2,080 crore into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries as part of the scheme’s 25th installment.
He reiterated that the welfare of women is a primary focus for the government, characterizing the Ladli Behna Yojana as a groundbreaking initiative that has already allocated over Rs 28,000 crore since its launch.
The Raksha Bandhan festival, which is celebrated on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana, symbolizes the cherished bond between brothers and sisters.
Dr Yadav further noted plans to integrate the Ladli Behna Yojana with national initiatives such as the Atal Pension Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana, aiming to ensure long-term financial security for women throughout the state.
