Mysuru, Oct 2 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed his gratitude to Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq on Thursday for inaugurating the Dusshera festivities and commended the ministers and officials who played a pivotal role in successfully executing the historic Dusshera celebrations in Mysuru.
Speaking to the press in Mysuru, he remarked, "Dusshera is a festival for the people. Its success is determined by the number of attendees. I commend writer and Booker awardee Banu Mushtaq for launching this year's Dusshera celebrations. It brings great joy that the festival has proceeded smoothly without any issues. I appreciate the efforts of the ministers, legislators, and officials who made this possible," stated the Chief Minister.
He emphasized that Dusshera is a celebration for everyone, highlighting that its success hinges on widespread participation.
This year's Dusshera festival is notably extended to eleven days.
"Throughout my two terms as Chief Minister, I have been privileged to be part of all Dusshera celebrations. Thanks to the blessings of the people, I have had the joy of participating in Dasara as Chief Minister eight times," he continued.
Addressing the issue of crop damage due to flooding and incessant rains, CM Siddaramaiah noted the beneficial rainfall across the state. While reservoirs are full and crops are flourishing, excessive rainfall in certain districts of North Karnataka has resulted in damage to crops on nearly 10 lakh hectares.
During a prior visit to Kalaburagi, he announced that compensation would be allocated to affected farmers post-survey. The compensation is set at Rs 17,000 per hectare for dry land, Rs 17,500 per hectare for irrigated land, and Rs 31,000 per hectare for multi-crop land, supported by the government and the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF), he explained.
He added that the ongoing heavy rainfall has hindered the joint crop-loss survey.
“Once the survey wraps up, compensation will be disbursed for all 10 lakh hectares of crop damage,” he assured.
On the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar paid floral tributes to Goddess Chamundeshwari, who was paraded in a golden howdah by Abhimanyu within the Mysuru Palace grounds.
Present at the event were Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Ministers H.C. Mahadevappa and Shivaraj Tangadagi, MP Yaduveer Wadiyar, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, Deputy Commissioner Laxmikant Reddy, and Police Commissioner Seema Latkar.
Previously, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar offered prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari at Chamundi Hill in Mysuru.
During this visit, he also performed the ritual of breaking coconuts in front of the Chamundeshwari temple.
