Six Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in Tamil Nadu for Unauthorized Stay

Chennai, Jan 4 (NationPress) A total of six Bangladeshi nationals have been detained in Tamil Nadu for residing in the region without any valid documentation, as stated by the police.

The detentions occurred in Palladam within the Tirupur district.

Palladam police officials reported that they received a tip-off about Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the vicinity.

Responding to the information, the police executed a raid on a residence and took the inhabitants to the police station for interrogation.

During the inquiry, it was confirmed that the individuals were indeed Bangladeshi nationals.

The six individuals have been identified as Rawhan Ali (36), Harirul Islam (26), Rahman (20), Sohail Islami (20), Sabipul Islam (40), and Abdul Hossain (27).

Further investigations unveiled that they had been residing without valid documentation and were working in construction and hosiery companies. However, they lacked the necessary papers to remain in India.

"In the Mahalaxmi Nagar area close to Palladam in Tirupur district, the Palladam police were tipped off about Bangladeshi nationals residing without proper documentation. Based on this information, police conducted an inspection at a house in the area and took the occupants to the police station for inquiry," a source revealed.

The police arrested the six individuals and presented them to the court, after which they were sent to Puzhal prison in Chennai.

It is significant to mention that Tiruppur is famous for its knitwear industry, which boasted an annual turnover of approximately Rs 40,000 crore in 2024.

This industry employs around eight lakh workers, with nearly three lakh originating from North Indian states, West Bengal, and the northeastern states.

Security measures along the India-Bangladesh border have been intensified in light of the unrest in the neighboring country following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government.

There have also been reports of extensive violence across the nation, particularly targeting the minority Hindu community.
