New Delhi, Jan 15 (NationPress) Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi officially opened the new Congress Headquarters, 'Indira Bhawan', in the capital city on Wednesday.

The inauguration was graced by the presence of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, senior party leaders, and dedicated Congress workers from across the nation. During the event, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge raised the national flag at the newly established headquarters.

Situated at 9A, Kotla Road, this new headquarters represents a significant milestone in the legacy of the historic party, which has been based at 24, Akbar Road for the past 47 years.

The Congress party regards this new headquarters as a monument that embodies the values of democracy, nationalism, secularism, inclusive development, and social justice.

“Honoring the 140-year glorious legacy of the Congress, the walls here tell the story of truth, non-violence, sacrifice, struggle, and patriotism. With renewed energy, determination, and assurance, the Congress is poised to influence India’s promising future, promote public engagement, and raise the banner of justice,” the party remarked in a post on X.

The party further articulated that the building reflects service, harmony, dedication, and patriotism.

Kharge remarked, “The Congress party’s new headquarters ‘Indira Bhawan’ has been constructed on the principles of Democracy, Nationalism, Secularism, Inclusive Development, and Social Justice. It symbolizes the 140-year illustrious history of the Indian National Congress, with the walls here recounting the remarkable saga of truth, non-violence, sacrifice, struggle, and patriotism.

During the ceremony, Rahul Gandhi stated, "We are inaugurating our new headquarters at a very meaningful moment. It is significant that, just yesterday, the RSS chief claimed that India did not attain true independence in 1947 but only after the construction of the Ram Mandir. This building is not just an ordinary structure - it has emerged from the very ground of our nation, symbolizing the labor and sacrifices of millions. The outcome of the freedom struggle was our Constitution, which Mohan Bhagwat subtly criticized, implying it does not represent our freedom. This party has consistently upheld a distinct set of values, which are mirrored in this building.”

The headquarters, named Indira Bhawan in honor of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, took over 15 years to complete.

At least 400 prominent Congress leaders attended the inauguration, including members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Permanent and Special Invitees, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders, Members of Parliament from both Houses, former Chief Ministers, ex-PCC Presidents, and former Union Ministers.
