CM Stalin Critiques Centre's Crisis Management Amid West Asia Conflict
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 24 (NationPress) Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister M.K. Stalin ramped up his criticism of the Central Government on Tuesday, challenging its ability to manage the repercussions of the intensifying conflict in West Asia, especially concerning fuel security and the welfare of Indian nationals overseas.
CM Stalin reacted strongly to statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding public readiness, asserting that the responsibilities of governance should not be transferred to citizens during crises. He emphasized that urging people to prepare for disruptions reminiscent of the Covid-19 pandemic reveals a troubling lack of preparedness at the highest governmental levels.
“Prepared for what - leadership or its absence?” the DMK chief questioned, stressing that it is the Union Government’s duty to manage crises, not the ordinary citizen’s burden.
He further raised concerns over the absence of preventive measures to avert potential disruptions.
The Chief Minister noted that he had previously contacted the Prime Minister, advocating for immediate and definitive actions to guarantee a steady supply of LPG across Tamil Nadu for domestic, commercial, and industrial users.
He warned that any interruption in LPG supply would significantly affect households, small enterprises, and critical sectors reliant on fuel.
In his correspondence, CM Stalin also highlighted the plight of Tamil individuals stranded in West Asia due to the ongoing conflict. He called for urgent action from the Centre, including coordinated evacuation efforts, the provision of transit visas, and the operation of extra flights to facilitate their safe and timely return.
Additionally, he urged the Union Government to reassess the allocation process for natural gas to power plants under the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026.
CM Stalin emphasized that Tamil Nadu anticipates a spike in electricity demand during the forthcoming summer months, making a reliable gas supply essential to prevent power shortages.
The Chief Minister's comments arise amid escalating concerns regarding the impact of global geopolitical tensions on energy supply chains and domestic markets.
Highlighting the importance of proactive governance, CM Stalin stated that timely action by the Centre is crucial to ensure both energy security and public welfare, reiterating that crisis preparedness should remain a fundamental responsibility of the government.
