Mumbai, April 9 (NationPress) Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday urged the administration to initiate an extensive project aimed at fortifying health institutions, from sub-centres to referral hospitals statewide in a 'mission mode' approach, backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
During a meeting to evaluate ongoing initiatives of the Medical Education and Public Health Departments in partnership with ADB, he stated that construction is currently in progress for the Alibag and Sindhudurg general hospitals.
According to the government release, hospitals in Amravati, Washim, and Dharashiv are in the tendering phase. A network of Centers of Excellence is being created to enhance quality, with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) as the central 'hub' and seven proposed 'spokes', the release added.
A Health Management Information System (HMIS) is also under development. Equipment is being acquired for government hospitals in Satara, Chandrapur, and Sir JJ Super Specialty Hospital. Institutions related to organ donation and transplantation are also being established.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the Central government has introduced a National Cancer Care Policy, and in accordance with this, an effective protocol needs to be set up for cancer diagnosis and referral services. The treatment framework should include chemotherapy and radiation therapy, with implementation within a specified timeline.
He stated that the Departments of Medical Education and Public Health have been tasked with preparing a comprehensive project report aimed at strengthening healthcare institutions. Innovative solutions must be embraced to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services to the populace.
Furthermore, he mentioned that new government medical colleges are being opened across the state, with corresponding district hospitals affiliated to these institutions. In areas with high populations and patient loads, directives have been issued to establish independent hospitals.
CM Fadnavis stressed the importance of assessing the necessity for separate hospitals under the Medical Education Department in districts where government medical colleges are operational.
Thorough planning and classification must be conducted to identify essential hospitals and potential sites for new facilities for both the Medical Education and Public Health departments.
He specifically directed that a hospital under the Medical Education Department be established in Dharashiv.
Additionally, he suggested exploring the feasibility of requiring students admitted to postgraduate medical programs to serve in government hospitals for a designated period post-education.
