The 'Jan Aushadhi Diwas' is observed on March 7 to highlight the welfare initiative known as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana and to encourage the usage of high-quality generic medications available at low and affordable prices through Jan Aushadi Kendras established across various districts and states.
In celebration of this day, a series of events are organized throughout the country from March 1 to 7 to back this noble cause.
In an interview with IANS regarding 'Jan Aushadhi Diwas', Sudarshan Patnaik remarked that this day is celebrated on March 7, and the theme for this year is 'Daam Kaam Dawai Uttam'.
"Aligned with the theme of 'Jan Aushadhi Diwas', I created a sand sculpture that underscores the advantages of this initiative. This endeavor by PM Narendra Modi is commendable for the nation and its citizens. Hence, I constructed this sand sculpture, which also features PM Modi. It took me around five to six hours to complete this sand art," he stated.
The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana was inaugurated in November 2008 by the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, in collaboration with Central Pharma Public Sector Enterprises.
This initiative aims to provide quality medicines to the general public at reasonable prices through dedicated outlets known as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The primary goal of this welfare program is to ensure that quality generic medications are accessible to every citizen at lower costs.
Besides educating the public about the benefits of generic medications, it emphasizes that lower prices do not imply a compromise on the quality of medicines. This initiative seeks to eradicate the misconception that higher prices equate to better quality.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana has significantly contributed to making quality medications available to the common man at affordable prices, thus ensuring access to health services across the nation.
