New Delhi, May 19 (NationPress) The Operation Sindoor, initiated as a reaction to the brutal and heinous terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, has garnered almost unanimous backing from the populace. This support extends not only to the military's precise and targeted strikes but also to the name itself.
A nationwide survey conducted by IANS-Matrize News Communications revealed that an overwhelming majority of participants believe the military operation against Pakistan is aptly titled 'Operation Sindoor'.
Approximately 76 percent of those surveyed responded positively, while 12 percent voiced their discontent, and another 12 percent remained undecided.
As the Indian military struck multiple terrorist bases within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the designation Operation Sindoor, coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, resonated with citizens who viewed the counteroffensive against terrorism as a fitting tribute to the widows who lost their husbands.
The term 'Sindoor', or vermilion, traditionally denotes the marital status of Hindu women. Tragically, at least 26 women were made widows on April 22, when terrorists executed their husbands at close range, segregating them based on religion.
Survey participants agreed with the popular sentiment that the name Operation Sindoor powerfully symbolizes their quest for justice and partially avenges their losses.
When questioned about the Opposition's attempts to criticize the name, a majority of 57 percent concurred, while 26 percent asserted their right to express concerns.
The survey was part of the Matrize study conducted between May 9 and 15, sampling 7,463 respondents nationwide.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, about two weeks following the Pahalgam terror attack, during which tourists were deliberately targeted based on religion and ruthlessly killed by members of The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror organization, Lashkar-e-Taiba. These terrorists managed to escape after wreaking havoc in the Baisaran meadows.
A poignant image from the Pahalgam massacre depicted a newly married woman sitting beside her husband's lifeless body.
