Patna, March 16 (NationPress) A suspected liquor dealer sustained injuries and was apprehended during a confrontation with law enforcement in the Saran district of Bihar, as reported by officials on Monday.

The altercation took place near the borders of the Mashrakh and Panapur police stations late on Sunday night.

Authorities identified the suspect as Suraj Mahto (26), the son of Munni Mahto, residing in Mithwa village within the Panapur police jurisdiction. He had been under police observation for allegedly distributing toxic liquor and had been evading capture.

Upon receiving a tip, police located him in Katihar, leading to his arrest and subsequent return to Chhapra (Saran) for further questioning.

Following this, police escorted the suspect to the Mashrakh-Panapur border for raids aimed at confiscating illegal liquor and identifying other accomplices in the operation.

During the raid, Mahto's associates opened fire on the police team in an attempt to liberate him. The police returned fire in self-defense, resulting in Mahto sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. He was promptly taken into custody and received medical attention thereafter.
