Kolkata, Aug 6 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has identified 41 individuals in his formal complaint related to the attack on his convoy in Cooch Behar, located in North Bengal. Among those named is a prominent member of the state cabinet, Udayan Guha, who serves as the Minister of State responsible for the North Bengal Development Department.
Adhikari’s counsel lodged the complaint with Dyutiman Bhattacharya, the Cooch Behar District Police Superintendent. In a recent update, police officials reported that the number of arrests linked to the attack on Adhikari’s convoy rose to seven, up from three as of Tuesday evening.
In response to these developments, Minister Guha contended that the individuals arrested do not support Adhikari’s claims, which suggested that the attack was orchestrated by illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi infiltrators. Guha stated, “His assertions lack merit. No Rohingya or Bangladeshi Muslim has been detained, nor mentioned in the police report. He ought to retract his statements. Those who disrespect the Bengali people and language will face consequences,” he added.
The incident occurred on Tuesday as Adhikari arrived in Cooch Behar for a planned protest rally. He, along with 65 other party legislators, intended to march to the district police superintendent's office to present a memorandum addressing the recent assaults on elected BJP officials in the area.
As the convoy approached Khagrabari in Cooch Behar, a group of individuals surged forward in an attempt to obstruct the vehicles. Fortunately, Adhikari remained unharmed due to the bulletproof glass of his vehicle. The BJP later alleged that the attackers were affiliated with the Trinamool Congress.
