Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla, informed IANS that Rohit, a 24-year-old drifter residing near Hanuman Mandir, was attacked by Sher alias Kabir, aged 28, who lives in a slum in Bhalswa. Rohit was left to bleed near the intersection of Mathura Road and Purana Quila in the Tilak Marg police station area on Wednesday afternoon.
“Rohit succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. We established 6-7 teams which, under the guidance of Additional DCP-I Sumit Jha and Additional DCP-II Anand Mishra, solved the blind murder within four hours, gathering all the essential evidence,” Mahla disclosed to IANS.
The DCP urged the community to assist individuals involved in accidents and crimes who are found abandoned on the roads.
“We appeal to society to notify the police and attempt to intervene in disputes occurring in public spaces,” he stated, noting that in this instance, many bystanders chose to ignore the injured victim.
Mahla explained that Rohit was reluctantly accompanying Sher to Nizamuddin to mediate a conflict, and the two had an altercation along the way, culminating in the murder around 2 p.m.
Utilizing technical and human intelligence, the e-bike that both individuals used prior to the incident was tracked down in Chirag Dilli, South Delhi.
“The investigative team followed the route and apprehended Sher while he was preparing to flee to Goa. The murder weapon, blood-stained clothing, and the vehicle were recovered,” he noted.
A murder charge under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was filed against Sher at the Tilak Marg police station.
