Throughout his extensive diplomatic career, he has held various significant roles, including First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Washington and Consul General in Frankfurt, among others.
Following his retirement from the IFS, Sandhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party shortly before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He is contesting as the BJP's candidate for the Lok Sabha seat from Amritsar against Congress leader Gurjit Singh Aujla.
Sandhu earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Stephen's College in Delhi and subsequently completed his Master of Arts at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.
