In Mahua, on November 14 (NationPress), Tej Pratap Yadav, the founder of Janshakti Janata Dal, finds himself trailing by over 5,500 votes in the Mahua Assembly constituency. Meanwhile, Sanjay Kumar Singh from LJP(RV) is currently in the lead as the counting progresses for the Bihar elections on Friday.
Tej Pratap Yadav, who is the son of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, established the Janshakti Janata Dal after his expulsion from RJD earlier this year.
As per the early reports from the Election Commission of India (ECI) at 10:30 a.m., Sanjay Kumar leads with 2,294 votes, while Mukesh Kumar Raushan of RJD follows in second place. The AIMIM’s Amit Kumar holds third place, and Tej Pratap Yadav is currently fourth, lagging behind with 5,823 votes.
Previously, in 2015, Tej Pratap served as the MLA for Mahua, while in 2020, Mukesh Kumar Raushan from RJD held the seat.
As vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections commenced on Friday, early trends indicate a significant lead for the NDA, signaling a setback for the Mahagathbandhan.
By 10 a.m., the election panel reported the NDA leading in 127 seats, while the grand alliance was ahead in 42 constituencies.
Notably, JD(U) has surged to become the largest party in these early trends.
The counting of all 243 Assembly seats started at 8 a.m. with postal ballots being scrutinized first, followed by the counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at 8:30 a.m., secured under extensive multi-tier safety measures across the state.
According to ECI's updates at 10:30 a.m., the BJP is leading in 72 seats, JD(U) in 75, LJP(RV) in 18, and HAMS in 5. On the opposing side, RJD leads in 41 seats, Congress in 7, and CPI(ML)(L) in 5.
Both alliances' candidates have expressed confidence in their prospects. NDA leaders believe the electorate of Bihar has reaffirmed their trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's promises and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's developmental efforts.
The Mahagathbandhan, under RJD's leadership, claims Bihar has voted for change, expressing hope that Tejashwi Yadav will lead the next government.
Counting is being conducted under the supervision of 243 Returning Officers and an equal number of Counting Observers appointed by the Election Commission.
Over 18,000 counting agents representing various candidates are present at counting centers to closely monitor the process.
Access to counting centers is tightly controlled, allowing only individuals with valid passes, and mobile phones are completely banned inside counting halls.
This election saw participation from over 70 crore voters, who cast their votes to determine the fate of both the ruling NDA and the Mahagathbandhan. Voting occurred in two phases on November 6 and 11.
Currently, the NDA holds 131 seats in the outgoing Assembly, comprising 80 from BJP, 45 from JD(U), 4 from HAM(S), and 2 independents. The opposition bloc has 111 seats, with RJD holding 77, Congress 19, CPI(ML) 11, CPI(M) 2, and CPI 2.
