Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) National Working President Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government on 28 April after a 23-year-old youth from Bihar was allegedly shot dead by Delhi Police and his friend critically injured in the national Capital. The Delhi Police operates under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, headed by Home Minister Amit Shah.

What Allegedly Happened

According to Tejashwi Yadav's post on social media platform X, Pandav Kumar, a resident of Khagaria district in Bihar, was shot dead, while his friend Krishna sustained critical injuries in the incident. Yadav alleged that the victims were targeted specifically because they were perceived as "Biharis." Tejashwi's Political Broadside

Yadav alleged that "being a Bihari has become a crime" under the current regime. In a pointed post, he listed every level of governance in Delhi and Bihar as being under BJP control — from the Municipal Councillor and Member of Legislative Assembly to the Member of Parliament, the Chief Minister of Delhi, the Chief Minister of Bihar, the Lieutenant Governor, the Home Minister, and the Prime Minister.

"The BJP has effectively become a harbinger of death for Biharis," Yadav stated. He further alleged that the Delhi Police, instead of protecting the victims, "treated the victim as a criminal simply for being a Bihari and shot him."

He also questioned whether any BJP leader had the courage to ensure that "the murderous police officer — who killed a poor, hardworking Bihari — is brought to justice and punished."

Broader Concerns Over Bihari Migrants

Yadav linked the incident to what he described as 21 years of flawed economic policies by the Nitish-BJP alliance in Bihar, which he claimed have forced large numbers of people to migrate to other states in search of livelihood. He alleged that in those states, migrant Biharis are viewed "with suspicion, hatred, and disdain" rather than with dignity, and that "atrocities are committed against Biharis" repeatedly.

This is not the first time concerns over the safety and dignity of Bihari migrants in other states have entered political discourse. The issue has periodically surfaced in national debates, particularly around incidents of violence or discrimination targeting workers from economically weaker states.

RJD's Demands

The RJD leader demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, strict action against those responsible, and adequate compensation for the victim's family. He described the incident as "an attack on the dignity of Bihar and its people" and urged authorities to act without delay.

Opposition leaders have raised broader concerns over the safety of internal migrants, and political attention is now focused on the response of the Delhi Police and the Union government to the incident and its investigation.
