Why Did Tejasvi Surya Thank the Modi Government for Approving NIMHANS' Polytrauma Unit?

Bengaluru, June 28 (NationPress) BJP MP Tejasvi Surya expressed his appreciation for the Union Government's green light on a new 300-bed polytrauma unit at NIMHANS, located near Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. He described this initiative as a crucial advancement in delivering lifesaving and emergency critical care to accident victims in the area.

Surya, who is also the President of the BJP National Yuva Morcha, stated on Saturday, "The Department of Expenditure within the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, granted in-principle approval on Friday for the establishment of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) Post Graduate and 300-bedded Polytrauma Centre at Kyalasanahalli, near Kempegowda International Airport, with a budget of Rs 498 crore."

"I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this approval," he added.

Surya recently had a meeting with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, advocating for the swift approval of the project.

Earlier in the year, Surya had also engaged with the Health Minister alongside Bengaluru Rural MP C. N. Manjunath.

In 2022, Surya made repeated efforts to secure endorsement for the project with the previous Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya.

The project had been pending approval from the Department of Expenditure, which was finally obtained, coinciding with the Kempegowda Jayanti celebrations in Bengaluru.

Surya called this decision a positive step, stating, "The establishment of a Polytrauma centre in proximity to the airport will facilitate timely emergency assistance to accident victims. Currently, there are no public facilities addressing such trauma cases in the vicinity."

"The Union Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi and Health Minister Nadda, is tackling a significant humanitarian issue through the Polytrauma centre, and I appreciate their support for this Rs 498 crore project," he remarked.

"It is essential that accident victims receive critical medical attention during the Golden Hour. The NIMHANS Polytrauma Centre will not only provide this emergency care but also serve those suffering from multiple organ failures due to falls, assaults, or workplace injuries. This initiative is a pivotal step in reducing mortality rates and saving numerous trauma patients," he emphasized.

Road traffic incidents are the leading cause of polytrauma.

According to the World Health Organization, road traffic accidents are projected to become the fifth leading cause of death by 2030, he noted.

Once operational, the Polytrauma Centre will adopt a comprehensive approach to patient care, becoming a vital regional hub for emergency services. Additionally, its strategic location near the National Highway and the KIA will enhance access for patients from neighboring cities, Surya explained.

The land for this facility, spanning 39 acres in Kyalasanahalli, was allocated in 2012-13 to NIMHANS during the BJP-led Karnataka Government's administration, he mentioned.

With the in-principle approval from the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India now in place, the final endorsement from the Union Health Ministry is anticipated soon, Surya stated.
