On Tuesday, officials halted poultry vehicles at Pullur Toll Plaza in Jogulamba Gadwal District and sent them back to Andhra Pradesh.
To manage this situation, 24 checkposts have been established along the border with Andhra Pradesh, including three in the unified Nalgonda district.
Officials from the district veterinary services, along with police, were actively stopping these vehicles and preventing their entry into Telangana.
The alert comes after a significant number of chickens succumbed to bird flu in Andhra Pradesh.
The Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries Department of Telangana notified district Collectors about the reports of HPAI in other states, urging them to reinforce bio-security protocols to curb the spread of the virus and safeguard the poultry industry.
Sabyasachi Ghosh, the Special Chief Secretary to the government, has urged Collectors to enhance awareness regarding HPAI prevention among poultry farmers, stakeholders, and the general public, emphasizing the importance of bio-security measures to prevent the transport of infected birds and ensure proper disposal of deceased poultry. They are also advised to report any unusual poultry deaths to the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department.
Additionally, the Special Chief Secretary called for district-level meetings with the Forest, Police, Health, and Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Departments to strategize on measures to mitigate the disease's spread from other states into Telangana.
The bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in two regions of East and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh.
