Hyderabad, June 1 (NationPress) Telangana has experienced a notable 11 percent reduction in cybercrime complaints for the first four months of 2025. The police attribute this decline to increased public awareness, data-driven enforcement, and swift actions.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) reports a significant drop in both cybercrime complaints and financial losses during the initial months of 2025 compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
This success is credited to various factors, including enhanced public awareness campaigns, proactive investigative measures, and strategic operations fueled by data analytics and inter-agency cooperation.
According to TGSCB Director Shikha Goel, there was an 11 percent decrease in financial cybercrime complaints from January to April 2025, compared to the same timeframe in 2024. Additionally, a 5.5 percent decline was noted against the September–December 2024 quarter. In stark contrast, cybercrime reports across India surged by 28 percent during this period.
On the issue of financial losses, the total amount lost to cybercrimes in Telangana fell by 19 percent from January-April 2025 compared to 2024. This also indicates a remarkable over 30 percent reduction from the previous quarter (Sep–Dec 2024). In a nationwide context, financial losses related to cybercrime escalated by 12 percent during the same interval.
Furthermore, Telangana has improved its recovery rate of lost funds from 13 percent in 2024 to 16 percent in 2025, showcasing more effective complaint resolution and enhanced coordination with banks and online platforms, as stated by the TGSCB Director.
Preliminary internal statistics suggest a continued decline in both the volume of complaints and total losses in May 2025 compared to May 2024.
FIRs rose from 6,763 in 2024 to 7,575 in 2025, thereby improving the conversion rate from 18 percent to 19 percent. The number of arrests surged, increasing from 230 in early 2024 to 626 in 2025.
The execution of PT warrants also rose from 53 to 89, demonstrating improved inter-jurisdictional coordination. The TGCSB’s initiatives to streamline processes, bolster collaboration with district police, and implement data-driven tracking significantly contributed to higher case closure rates and quicker responses against cybercriminals, stated the officer.
