How Did Telangana Authorities Arrest 34 Cyber Offenders?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, Jan 9 (NationPress) The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has successfully apprehended 34 cyber offenders during a focused one-day operation conducted statewide.
The individuals taken into custody include 24 suspects tied to ongoing Child Sexual Exploitative and Abusive Material (CSEAM) offenses and 10 individuals linked to various cyber fraud activities both within Telangana and beyond.
A total of 18 teams were involved in this operation, which primarily targeted areas in and around Hyderabad and other district units.
On Friday, TGCSB director Shikha Goel stated that this operation marks the second time TGCSB has exclusively focused on CSEAM, resulting in the arrest of 24 repeat offenders who were involved in the uploading, storing, and sharing of explicit content featuring minors.
The offenders are connected to 91 cyber tipline complaints, leading to the filing of 24 FIRs under Section 67-B of the IT Act and 15 under the POCSO Act across various TGCSB Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPSs) in the state.
The age range of the offenders is between 18 and 48 years, primarily from working and middle-class backgrounds, including a state government employee. A notable portion of the material is believed to involve foreign minors aged between 4 to 14 years, with nearly 90 percent being girl children.
The Child Protection Unit of TGCSB, while reviewing the CSEAM tipline evidence, identified content that appeared to be locally produced by the offenders. By analyzing factors like age, background, clothing, features, and language, a thorough investigation led to the apprehension of the suspects and the rescue of a four-year-old victim.
The accused, Kandhada Srikanth, aged 24, resides in Rajendranagar and is currently employed as a security guard at G2 Security Solutions. Previously, he worked at COLOR Health and Glow in Hyderguda as a housekeeping staff. He was responsible for abusing the minor girl, recording the indecent act, and subsequently uploading it to Google Drive for further distribution.
This heinous act went unnoticed by the parents, who were unaware that their child was being abused by someone known until TGCSB intervened and arrested the offender.
In a separate incident, a government employee, serving as a junior assistant in the irrigation department and involved in three online CSEAM tipline cases, has also been detained.
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) was established within TGCSB in collaboration with India Child Protection (ICP) in February 2025. The CPU actively monitors, identifies, and responds to the circulation of CSEAM content online.
TGCSB serves as the primary agency for managing CSEAM complaints, including those from the Cyber Tipline, Child Pornography, and Rape/Gang Rape (CPRGR) complaints through the NCRP portal and the Case Management Tool (CMT) of the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The unit also supervises social media platforms and conducts cyber patrolling on the deep and dark web.
