Hyderabad, Feb 28 (NationPress) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the state's residents for endorsing the development of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the efforts of Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
During a media briefing at the Congress headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan, Revanth Reddy stated that he has consistently raised this matter with the Prime Minister and had previously made a request to Ram Mohan Naidu.
The Civil Aviation Minister approved the development of Mamnoor Airport, which is anticipated to enhance regional air connectivity within Telangana. This endorsement came after a one-time waiver of the exclusivity clause by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL).
“Warangal possesses significant potential to evolve into a prominent regional hub. We are dedicated to ensuring that this project progresses quickly, fostering new avenues for trade, tourism, and local job creation,” stated the Civil Aviation Minister.
In a letter to Ram Mohan Naidu dated November 5, 2024, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state's commitment to the airport's development under the UDAN scheme, in partnership with the AAI.
The state has commenced land acquisition, allocating Rs 205 crore for 280.30 acres, ensuring the airport can accommodate Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 aircraft, as per a statement from the Minister of Civil Aviation.
In response to the state's plea for expedited procedures, Minister Naidu obtained a no-objection certificate from GMR Hyderabad Airport, confirming the waiver of the 150 km exclusivity limitation under Clause 5.2 of the concession agreement. The NOC applies only to Mamnoor Airport and will not impact future projects in the exclusivity zone.
The AAI has begun planning infrastructure, with clearance to move forward pending the necessary regulatory approvals.
The launch of Warangal Airport is anticipated to be transformative for Telangana, enhancing regional development, tourism, and trade prospects.
“The airport represents more than mere infrastructure – it is a gateway to growth and prosperity for Warangal and beyond,” added the minister.
