Bhubaneswar, June 12 (NationPress) Tension has enveloped multiple areas of Odisha's Bhadrak district on Thursday following the death of an individual who was injured in an attack by cattle smugglers on May 30. According to reports, relatives and local residents initiated a road blockade, placing the deceased's body on NH-16 in Bhadrak town.

The police and district authorities were quick to respond, attempting to disperse the protesters.

Santosh Parida, aged 45, from Kasati village under Tihidi police jurisdiction, passed away while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

He was allegedly attacked by cattle smugglers while on his way home on May 30.

In response, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi declared that the state government would cover the educational costs for Parida's children.

Additionally, CM Majhi announced a financial aid of Rs 10 lakh and a job opportunity for one family member of the deceased.

The state government has temporarily suspended internet and social media services in various parts of the district for 24 hours to prevent further escalation of tensions.

"To curb misinformation and ensure peace, access to social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, X, and other internet services has been restricted for 24 hours from 6:00 a.m. on June 12, 2025, to 6:00 a.m. on June 13, 2025," stated Odisha Police in a press release.

The areas affected by the internet suspension include the Bhadrak Municipal area, Bhadrak block, Tihidi block, Dhamnagar block, and Dhamnagar NAC regions.

A total of 27 platoons of police have been deployed to sensitive areas to uphold law and order during processions, conduct mobile patrolling, and ensure communal harmony within the district.

Furthermore, six Executive Magistrates have been assigned to oversee the police operations.

District Fire and Ambulance Services are on standby to address any emergencies that may arise.

To date, the police have arrested 12 individuals, including the main suspect, during raids conducted in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and various locations within Odisha.
