Kolkata, Oct 21 (NationPress) - A traffic home guard and another individual have been apprehended for allegedly harassing and physically assaulting a female junior doctor at a hospital in West Bengal's Howrah, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.
The alarming incident unfolded at the Uluberia Sarat Chandra Chatterjee Medical College and Hospital on Monday evening.
The accused traffic home guard has been identified as Sheikh Babulal, who is stationed in Uluberia.
As per police reports, he entered the maternity ward accompanied by a relative and around 10-12 others.
At that moment, the female junior doctor was attending to her duties in the maternity ward. After she assessed the condition of the traffic home guard's relative, she left for the hospital restroom, where Babulal and his companions reportedly assaulted her.
The junior doctor claimed that one of the assailants twisted her arm, while another slapped her on the neck. Disturbingly, some members of the group also threatened her with sexual assault and death. Fortunately, the ward nurse and other hospital staff intervened and rescued her from the situation.
It has come to light that the attackers alleged the home guard's relative was not provided adequate care in the maternity ward, which sparked an altercation targeting the junior doctor for supposed negligence.
