What Happened to the Three Young Men After Their Car Plunged into a Canal in Itarsi?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Narmadapuram, Feb 7 (NationPress) Three individuals tragically lost their lives when the car they were in fell into the Patharauta canal on the Bhopal-Betul National Highway in Itarsi on Friday night after crashing through the bridge railing. The bodies were retrieved last night, and the car was extracted from the canal on Saturday using a crane.
The unfortunate incident occurred when the I-20 vehicle lost control and plunged into the canal after breaking through the railing.
A video that circulated on social media depicted an eyewitness attempting to jump into the canal to rescue them, but he was unable to open the car doors.
The accident took place around midnight when the I-20 was en route from Kesla to Itarsi.
It appears that the three young men were under the influence of alcohol, as a bottle of liquor was discovered in the car.
The manner in which the car broke through the railing and fell into the canal indicates it was likely traveling at a high speed, resulting in the driver losing control.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police from Itarsi and Patharauta responded promptly to the scene, initiating efforts to recover the submerged vehicle. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Narmadapuram also arrived to assist in pulling the car from the canal.
According to State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Platoon Commander Amrita Dixit, the rescue operation took approximately 1 to 1.5 hours due to the car’s depth in the canal. An identity card belonging to Lucky Patel was found in the vehicle.
Town Inspector Sanjeev Singh confirmed that the SDRF team arrived quickly after being alerted, and further investigations are ongoing.
“After we received the report around midnight, a police team was dispatched to the location, followed by SDRF teams for the rescue. Three bodies have been recovered, and investigations are still in progress,” he stated.
Singh noted that police are examining CCTV footage from nearby roadside eateries to gather more information about the incident.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Shivram Tiwari (26), Abhay Chouhan (19), and Luky Patel (30).
