Garhwa, April 11 (NationPress) In a devastating event, four girls drowned in a pond located in the Haraiya village of Jharkhand’s Garhwa district on Friday. The young victims, who were all related, had come together to celebrate a family occasion when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The girls had gone to the village pond to bathe in preparation for a Chhathi ceremony being held at the home of Chandan Singh.

During their bathing, they wandered into deeper water and could not return. A boy who was with them managed to escape and quickly ran home to inform the family.

The victims were identified as Lado Singh, aged 10, daughter of Chandan Singh from Haraiya village; Ankita Singh, aged 22, daughter of Jitendra Singh; Roma Singh, aged 18, daughter of Vishisht Singh, a resident of Pagar in the Panki police station area of Palamu district; and Meethi Singh, aged 15, daughter of Abhishek Singh, who lived in Purnadih within the Leslieganj police station area.

All four girls were part of a larger family gathering for the newborn’s Chhathi ceremony, which is a traditional rite performed six days after a child's birth.

Upon receiving the alarming news, family members and villagers hurried to the pond and retrieved the girls, who were then rushed to Garhwa Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.

This tragic incident has cast a shadow over the village, turning what was expected to be a joyful celebration into a time of mourning.

Former Jharkhand minister Mithilesh Thakur visited the hospital to console the grieving families.

He expressed his condolences on social media, stating: “The news of the tragic drowning deaths of four innocent girls in Haraiya village has profoundly affected me. I met with the sorrowful family at Sadar Hospital and promised them all possible support. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the family find the strength to endure this tremendous loss.”
