Kolkata, June 26 (NationPress) - The Trinamool Congress has issued a show-cause notice to its legislator, Humayun Kabir, representing the Debra Assembly constituency in West Midnapore, for his unauthorized visit to the family of a 13-year-old girl who tragically lost her life in a bomb blast in Kaliganj, Nadia district, earlier this week.
Kabir, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, visited the victim's home on Wednesday evening, extending financial assistance to the victim's mother.
He stated that the funds were not from him personally or from the Trinamool Congress, but from a voluntary organization with which he is affiliated.
However, the victim's mother declined the offered money, firmly asserting that she would not accept any form of compensation from the state, the Trinamool Congress, or any party member.
She emphasized that her sole mission is to seek justice for her daughter and to hold accountable those responsible for this heinous act.
The party's decision to confront Kabir with a show-cause notice was confirmed by state Vice President Jayprakash Majumdar on Thursday afternoon.
Kabir has been instructed to respond to the notice within three days.
A senior member of the West Bengal Cabinet remarked that Kabir's actions, including offering money without party consent and the victim's mother's refusal, have severely embarrassed the Trinamool Congress.
"It appeared as if he was acting on behalf of the party to appease the victim's family, which was not the case. His visit and financial offer were personal decisions made without consulting party leadership, hence the notice," the Cabinet member explained.
Since Thursday afternoon, Kabir has been unresponsive, and no statements have been made regarding the incident.
To date, five individuals have been arrested in connection with the tragic death of the minor girl, Tamanna Khatun.
Family members and locals allege that the girl was killed by splinters from a bomb thrown during a Trinamool Congress victory procession celebrating Alifa Ahmed's win in Kaliganj bypolls, the results of which were released on Monday.
The victim's mother has accused the district police of neglecting the political motivations behind the bombing, which specifically targeted her home, resulting in her daughter's death.
She questioned how only five individuals were arrested when approximately 40 to 50 bombs were hurled at her residence in a short timeframe, suggesting that such an operation could not be executed by just four people.
On Tuesday, the National Commission for Women took suo motu cognizance of the case, demanding clarification from Krishnanagar District Superintendent of Police, Amarnath K.
