Agartala, Aug 3 (NationPress) Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Sunday that the construction of the state's inaugural international cricket stadium in Narsingarh, located near Agartala airport, is projected to be finalized by December of this year.
During a function at Kamalpur in the Dhalai district, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of keeping politics out of sports and supporting players.
He mentioned that the state government, in partnership with the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), is diligently working to enhance the sports infrastructure throughout the state, ensuring that aspiring athletes from all regions, especially those in remote and rural areas, receive the necessary facilities they deserve.
This effort not only brings cricket closer to the youth but also signifies the government's dedication to comprehensive development through sports, said Saha, highlighting the ongoing political controversies related to cricket.
The Chief Minister pointed out that numerous individuals excelled in cricket yet were denied opportunities due to political interference. He mentioned that some players even participated in the Ranji Trophy through political connections, claiming that under the previous administration, talent was often overlooked in favor of political allies.
“The government changed in 2018 in Tripura under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Politics should not intertwine with sports. We must honor talent, and I thank the TCA for their efforts. Player selection should prioritize skill over party ties. We have also prioritized merit and transparency in job placements. The opposition tends to use their party affiliates to sow discord among the populace,” Saha stated.
He further shared plans for the state government to create high-quality cricket fields throughout Tripura. “We possess ample talent, but practice is crucial. Even the construction of the international stadium faced political challenges. The prior CPI (M) government excelled at causing issues, and we are focused on resolving those,” Saha asserted.
Present at the event were Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, MLA Manoj Kanti Deb, TCA Secretary Subrata Dey, TCA Advisor Tapan Lodh, and other esteemed guests.
