Agartala, March 13 (NationPress) The Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in Tripura, Ratan Lal Nath, announced on Friday that a sum of Rs 46.36 crore will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of 2.16 lakh farmers in the state as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) initiative.
Minister Nath provided this update following his attendance at the virtual distribution ceremony for the 22nd instalment of the scheme, which was also addressed by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The event featured a virtual address from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who participated from Assam.
This state-level programme took place at the State Agriculture Research Station located in Arundhuti Nagar, on the outskirts of Agartala.
During the event, Minister Nath highlighted that the PM-KISAN initiative is a Central government program introduced in the state in February 2019 to offer financial support to farmers and enhance their income.
Although the scheme was initiated on December 1, 2018, its implementation in Tripura started in the following year.
The financial aid provided through this scheme assists farmers in acquiring agricultural inputs and fulfilling household expenses.
All costs related to the scheme are covered by the Central government.
Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 annually, distributed in three equal payments of Rs 2,000 each, which are directly credited to their bank accounts.
According to Minister Nath, over Rs 4 lakh crore has been dispatched to the bank accounts of more than 11 crore farmers nationally up to the 21st instalment.
He added that, thanks to the committed actions of the state government and targeted initiatives from the Centre, farmers who have received land titles in the Right of First Refusal (ROFR) areas are also reaping the benefits of this scheme.
In Tripura, a total of 2,85,521 farmers have benefited from financial aid amounting to Rs 931.53 crore directly in their bank accounts as of the 21st instalment.
The Minister also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi digitally launched the 22nd instalment of PM-KISAN from Guwahati, pressing a button at 5 p.m. on Friday.
On this occasion, Rs 18,630 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore eligible farmers across the nation.
In Tripura alone, more than Rs 46.36 crore will be allocated directly to the bank accounts of 2.16 lakh eligible farmers under this scheme, the Minister concluded.
