Agartala, March 13 (NationPress) The Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, announced on Friday that the state has experienced a remarkable enhancement in law enforcement over the last year, with an overall reduction in crime by 8.33 percent from April to November 2025 compared to the same timeframe in 2024.

Speaking at the commencement of the Tripura Assembly's budget session, the Governor highlighted that numerous crime categories have shown significant reductions.

Incidents related to property crimes fell by 18.51 percent, crimes against women decreased by 11 percent, reported rape cases declined by 33 percent, murders decreased by 26 percent, and assault cases saw a 10 percent reduction, which indicates stronger law enforcement and improved police practices.

He emphasized the effectiveness of the state’s anti-drug initiative, the “Nesha Mukt Tripura” campaign, which resulted in the registration of 350 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against 515 individuals from April to November 2025.

During this period, law enforcement agencies confiscated 22,606.50 kg of ganja, 211,141 bottles of cough syrup, 606,379 tablets of methamphetamine, and 1,937.88 grams of heroin/brown sugar.

Authorities also successfully eradicated over 2.10 crore ganja plants or saplings, marking an impressive 74.45 percent increase in destruction compared to the previous year.

The Governor noted that the introduction of new criminal legislation has significantly boosted conviction rates, which rose from 29.47 percent (January–June 2024) to 60.50 percent (July-December 2024) and further to 68.25 percent between January and November 2025.

Regarding the rehabilitation of displaced tribal groups, the Governor reported that the state government has successfully resettled 6,935 Reang tribal families (totaling 37,584 individuals) who had escaped from Mizoram.

This rehabilitation process was conducted under the quadripartite agreement signed on January 16, 2020, involving the Centre, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram, and the refugees' representatives.

The families have been resettled across 12 locations, with the state completing 6,678 houses and essential infrastructure such as roads, schools, anganwadi centers, health and wellness facilities, drinking water supply, electricity, fair price shops, and cooperative societies.

In the agricultural sector, the Governor announced the establishment of a farmers’ registry encompassing 2.71 lakh farmers and the implementation of a Digital Crop Survey in one village per district, which enabled the state to qualify for Rs 260 crore in special assistance from the Centre.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a total of Rs 87.47 crore has been disbursed to 2.17 lakh farmers, while 96,000 farmers have secured insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

In terms of higher education, the state has initiated efforts to elevate Women’s College to a Women’s University and the Tripura Institute of Technology to a State Technical University.

The Governor also announced a significant milestone in education, revealing that Tripura achieved the status of a fully literate state on June 23, 2025, becoming the third state in India to reach this achievement with a literacy rate of 95.6 percent under the ULLAS Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Tourism infrastructure has seen substantial improvements.

The state has constructed 10 new log huts at Chabimura, bringing the total to 51 under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.

Waterfront development initiatives at Jagannath Dighi in Udaipur, along with new visitor amenities at Surmacherra, Neermahal, and Chabimura, have been finalized.

Moreover, laser, light, and sound shows have been introduced at Krishnasagar and Neermahal to enhance the visitor experience.

Reddy Nallu further mentioned that the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple in Gomati district has undergone upgrades under the PRASHAD scheme at a cost of Rs 52 crore, with Alpana Gram in Lankamura recognized nationally as one of the top tourism villages.

Additionally, a Rs 97.70 crore project to construct a replica complex of 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar park has commenced, while ADB-funded projects worth Rs 179.72 crore are in progress to enhance major religious and heritage sites across the state, as stated by the Governor.
