Agartala, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Thursday that the state boasts the third-lowest crime rate in the entire nation.

While speaking at the event marking the Tripura Police Week, Saha referenced statistics from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), revealing that among 28 states, Tripura is ranked 8th lowest concerning physical assaults and crimes against women.

“In 2024, Tripura recorded the lowest number of crimes in the past decade. The Tripura police effectively and peacefully managed last year's Lok Sabha and three-tier Panchayat elections,” stated Saha, who oversees the home portfolio.

He noted that when comparing 2023 to 2024, there was an overall crime rate decrease of 19.3% in Tripura, with property-related crimes dropping by 45%, physical crimes by 38%, riots by 75%, assaults by 37.2%, and crimes against women seeing a 55% decline.

The Chief Minister emphasized that with the surrender of 1173 militants from groups such as the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), the state has achieved an insurgency-free status. Over the past three years, 1,666 cases were filed under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, leading to the arrest of 3079 drug peddlers for illegal activities.

In the last three years, security forces seized drugs valued at Rs 1586 crores, with Rs 867 crores confiscated in 2024 alone, reflecting a 106% increase over 2023, according to the Chief Minister.

Saha further stated that to transform Tripura into a drug-free state, the police and security forces have taken consistent action against illicit drug trafficking, destroying 1.64 crore ganja plantations in 2024.

He acknowledged that the state police are highly proactive regarding cybercrime, having recovered Rs 17.61 lakh for victims due to their efforts.

Compared to 2023, there was an 18% increase in cases against illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh in 2024, with arrests of foreign nationals, including those from Bangladesh and Myanmar, rising by 36.6%.

“With great pride, Tripura Police has served the state for over 150 years, maintaining law and order,” he remarked.

During the Tripura Police Week, the Chief Minister presented awards to various police personnel and stations for their commendable performance and achievements.
