Two Police Officers Injured as Vehicle Allegedly Smuggling Ganja Hits Them

Amaravati, Jan 2 (NationPress) A vehicle believed to be involved in Ganja smuggling ran over two police officers at a toll plaza located in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident, which resulted in injuries to two police constables, took place at the Krishnavaram toll plaza in the Kirlampudi mandal during the early hours of Thursday.
As the vehicle approached the toll plaza, police personnel stationed for inspections attempted to signal the driver to halt.
The officers were collecting information from the driver of the vehicle, which was traveling from Visakhapatnam towards Rajamahendravaram. Although the driver initially appeared to comply, he unexpectedly accelerated, colliding with the two police constables.
Constable Lovaraju from the Kirlampudi Police Station and another constable positioned in front of the vehicle sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a medical facility. In response to the incident, vigilant police officers pursued the fleeing vehicle.
After covering a certain distance, the suspects abandoned the car at Rajanagaram and fled the scene.
The police seized the vehicle and reportedly discovered Ganja inside it. The suspect was later apprehended in Jeelugumilli, located in the West Godavari district.
The vehicle, registered in Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly transporting Ganja from Visakhapatnam. A case has been filed, and an investigation is underway.
The identity of the culprit and additional details remain undisclosed.
Ganja is cultivated in certain areas of Visakhapatnam and other districts in north coastal Andhra and the neighboring state of Odisha. In recent months, multiple drug dealers have been arrested in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana while attempting to transport Ganja to other regions.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Andhra Pradesh has been implementing measures to combat Ganja smuggling. Recently, they convened a strategic meeting with the Odisha police to devise methods for addressing narcotics trafficking.
During the meeting, they also explored approaches for eradicating Ganja cultivation at its source, including the utilization of advanced satellite imagery and drone technology to identify cultivation sites and organize preemptive raids during crucial cultivation periods.
Additionally, the meeting focused on targeting key individuals involved in the cultivation and distribution of Ganja while advocating for alternative crops and sustainable livelihoods to facilitate a transition away from Ganja cultivation.
