Upcoming Launch of Lakhpati Baideo Initiative in Assam

Guwahati, Dec 13 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated on Friday that the Lakhpati Baideo initiative, aimed at offering financial support to women entrepreneurs, is set to be officially introduced in the state soon.
He mentioned: “The Lakhpati Baideo initiative is currently undergoing verification and is anticipated to be launched once it receives approval from local MLAs. This program seeks to provide Rs. 10,000 to women who are members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) via banks.”
Sarma also discussed the third phase of the Orunodoi scheme—a monthly financial assistance program for women—stating that meetings will take place from December 15 to 28. These meetings will allow women who have not yet benefited from the scheme to participate, while current beneficiaries will need to re-register.
In the meantime, addressing the extensive destruction caused by the 2024 floods, the CM highlighted that the state government has been proactive in providing relief.
He noted that a total of Rs. 353 crores has been allocated to assist approximately 6.86 lakh families affected by the floods. The government has also extended its support to those affected by storms, he added.
Reflecting on the progress since the current government took office in 2021, Sarma reiterated the administration's vision of creating a new Assam.
He underscored the significant advancements made in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and more over the past three years.
Sarma pointed out the initiation of bridge construction projects over the Brahmaputra River, stretching from Tinsukia to Dhubri. He also mentioned the establishment of 23 medical colleges across the state, with more planned, and ongoing efforts to set up a university in each district.
The Chief Minister stressed that Assam has now become a model of development, with the state serving as an example for the rest of the country.
He credited this achievement to the government's commitment to transparency and merit-based recruitment, ensuring that even children from underprivileged backgrounds now have access to government jobs.
Sarma claimed that Assam's ongoing development journey has positioned the state as a beacon of progress for the nation, showcasing that Assam is now a shining example for India.
