Ranchi, March 27 (NationPress) The Jharkhand Assembly erupted in significant chaos on Thursday due to the murder of BJP leader and former Zila Parishad member Anil Mahto Tiger in Ranchi.
Prior to the session, BJP MLAs initiated a sit-in protest outside the Assembly. As the session commenced, they surged into the Well of the House, loudly condemning the government.
In response to the Opposition's accusations, Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu along with several MLAs from the ruling party assembled to counter them by shouting slogans.
Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto made multiple requests for calm, but the uproar persisted, leading to an adjournment of the House.
Meanwhile, BJP MLAs continued their dharna outside, demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister, claiming a profound breakdown of law and order.
Opposition Leader, Babulal Marandi, stated that the murder of Anil Tiger, occurring just 100 meters from the Kanke police station, has highlighted the declining security conditions within the state.
“The most disgraceful aspect is that Ranchi police tried to tarnish the deceased's reputation. The DGP seems overwhelmed, and the state police appear more interested in shielding criminals than protecting citizens,” he alleged.
Former Chief Minister Champai Soren also denounced the incident, asserting, “The surge in crime indicates that criminals in Jharkhand are receiving government protection. We demand that the central government remove this ineffective state administration and impose President’s Rule.”
Ranchi MLA and former minister C.P. Singh accused the Speaker of favoring the government. “It appears that jungle raj has returned to the state,” he noted.
The protesting BJP MLAs included Neera Yadav, Naveen Jaiswal, Raj Sinha, Alok Chaurasia, Purnima Das, Prakash Ram, Kushwaha Shashi Bhushan Mehta, among others.
Additionally, the BJP has declared a Ranchi bandh on Thursday to protest against the murder of Anil Tiger, which has garnered broad support, leading to road blockages and business closures throughout the city. Ranchi police have detained numerous individuals who took to the streets in favor of the bandh.
Supporters of the bandh have erected roadblocks at over 15 sites across the city, while major markets and business establishments remain shut.
Ranchi police have apprehended more than 20 BJP leaders and workers who protested in support of the bandh.
