Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Announces Compensation of Rs 2 Lakh for Victims of Kannauj Accident

Lucknow, Dec 7 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated prompt financial help of Rs two lakh for each family of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for individuals who suffered serious injuries in the Kannauj accident, according to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO).
This decision follows a tragic incident where eight individuals lost their lives and at least 19 others were injured after a double-decker bus collided with a water tanker on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway on Friday.
The police reported that the bus was on its route to Delhi from Lucknow when the accident took place.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sorrow over the fatalities resulting from the bus accident in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased individual and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister's Office stated, "Feeling saddened by the loss of lives in the bus accident in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences to the bereaved families. Wishing a quick recovery for the injured. The local administration is aiding those impacted."
"An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured will receive Rs 50,000: PM @narendramodi."
Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar provided details of the incident, saying, "Today, a bus and a water tanker collided on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. The bus was on its way from Lucknow to Delhi. Police arrived at the scene promptly after receiving information. Eight individuals have lost their lives, and 19 injured are receiving medical care."
District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla, SP Amit Kumar, and Tirwa MLA Kailash Rajput are present at the site, managing rescue operations. All injured individuals have been taken to Saifai Medical College.
This marks the second significant road accident in Uttar Pradesh within a span of five hours.
Earlier on Friday, six individuals were killed, and five others injured in a road incident in Chitrakoot, according to police reports. This accident involved an SUV colliding head-on with a truck on the Jhansi-Mirzapur highway around 5:30 a.m.
In Pilibhit, another accident claimed six lives when a car transporting a wedding party crashed into a tree and plunged into a ditch around midnight on Friday.
In the Pilibhit incident, a car with 11 individuals on board struck a tree before falling into a ditch on the Pilibhit-Tanakpur road in the Neora police station area.
The driver reportedly lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle.
The victims, all hailing from Khatima district in Uttarakhand, were returning from a wedding in Chandoi village when the tragedy occurred.
The deceased have been identified as Munni (65), Manzoor Ahmed (60), Bahiuddin (55), Sharif Ahmed (60), Sahe Alam (35), and Rakim (11).
Three of the injured were transferred to a higher medical facility, while others received initial treatment at a local hospital.
