Haridwar, April 14 (NationPress) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami received an honour from Dr B.R. Ambedkar Mahamanch during an event in the city for his work in implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state.
The ceremony took place at BHEL Ground in Haridwar, commemorating the 135th birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Constitution. A significant number of local residents attended the event, showcasing their enthusiasm despite the intense heat.
Expressing his gratitude for the accolade, CM Dhami noted that the substantial public turnout is a clear sign of the people's trust in this courageous decision.
He emphasized that the award represents not just an individual achievement but an ideology that has consistently advocated for justice and equality within Indian society.
Chief Minister Dhami portrayed Baba Saheb as a visionary, stating, “Ambedkar was convinced that genuine equality in society cannot be attained unless every citizen is granted equal rights.”
He further mentioned that this conviction motivated him to integrate transformative ideas like the Uniform Civil Code. The Chief Minister clarified that the Uttarakhand government is not merely enacting a law but is making significant strides toward social justice and equality.
CM Dhami remarked that Baba Saheb's contributions were overlooked for years, and his philosophies were marginalized.
“However, today’s India is progressing toward fulfilling his aspirations. This is a new India that honors its heritage while establishing new benchmarks through courageous decisions,” he stated.
The CM emphasized that the assembly in Haridwar is not simply a gathering of individuals; it is a public declaration of trust in the Chief Minister’s decisions, resonating beyond Uttarakhand throughout the nation.
He attributed this landmark decision to the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government's resolute political determination.
“Uttarakhand is once again leading the nation, where equality is no longer a mere concept in literature but has materialized as law, actively implemented. This is not just the enactment of a law; it signifies a decisive move towards a new India,” stated the Chief Minister.
CM Dhami also announced plans for the construction of the Baba Saheb Samrasata Sthal in Haridwar, aimed at educating future generations regarding the lives and contributions of social reformers from Scheduled communities, as well as the Indian Constitution.
“Under the SCP/TSP initiatives led by the Department of Social Welfare, multifunctional buildings will be established in regions primarily inhabited by Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, named after notable social reformers from these communities. Furthermore, special awareness programs will be conducted in educational institutions through the Scheduled Caste Commission to enlighten the youth about welfare schemes and rights pertinent to Scheduled communities,” he informed the media.
