Coimbatore, Aug 19 (NationPress) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has expressed his joy over the National Democratic Alliance's choice to nominate Maharashtra Governor and native of Tamil Nadu, C.P. Radhakrishnan, as its candidate for Vice President.

Nonetheless, he made it clear that his party, as a member of the INDIA bloc, will abide by the alliance's collective decision regarding the Vice Presidential election.

During a media interaction at the Coimbatore airport on Tuesday, Vaiko celebrated the announcement as a proud moment for the people of Tamil Nadu and the Kongu region.

He mentioned that Radhakrishnan’s candidacy brings him personal satisfaction due to their enduring friendship, but reaffirmed that his political alignment is with the united strategy of the INDIA bloc.

Reflecting on his past association with Radhakrishnan, Vaiko nostalgically recalled the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, which took place shortly after the Coimbatore serial blasts, when the AIADMK, BJP, and MDMK collaborated as allies.

“When Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived at the Coimbatore airport, a massive crowd gathered to see him. I mentioned to C.P.R. that the public was eager for his presence, and Vajpayee subsequently met them. During that campaign, I traveled with Radhakrishnan for three days in an open vehicle across Coimbatore, rallying votes for him. He ultimately won the election with a substantial majority,” Vaiko reminisced.

He further noted that although there were rumors about Radhakrishnan potentially being appointed as Governor of Nagaland, the NDA chose him for the distinguished Vice Presidential role.

“It is a privilege for Tamil Nadu to have a brave, compassionate representative from the Kongu region selected as Vice President. I am confident he will preside over the Rajya Sabha with dignity and authority. He may even ascend to the office of President in the future,” Vaiko remarked.

The seasoned leader also conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to Radhakrishnan on behalf of the people of Tamil Nadu.

“He is a man of integrity who respects everyone across party lines. His selection signifies recognition of Tamil Nadu’s contributions to the nation, and we take immense pride in him,” Vaiko stated.
