Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw visited Jaipur on Saturday, 23 May to participate in a Rozgar Mela (employment fair) at the Rajasthan Constitution Club, where 420 youths from the city received appointment letters for posts across central government departments. The event was part of a nationwide drive in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined virtually to inaugurate simultaneous hiring ceremonies at 47 locations across India, collectively distributing letters to 51,000 selected candidates.

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav, Jaipur Member of Parliament Manju Sharma, and MLA Gopal Sharma were present at the event. The recruitment drive covered Indian Railways, ISRO, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry of Education, and the Postal Department, among other central government bodies.

What Vaishnaw Said on Railway Recruitment

Addressing the gathering, Vaishnaw said that 1.78 lakh recruitments are currently underway in Indian Railways alone. He noted that the process, which earlier stretched over considerable time, has been restructured through an annual recruitment calendar. Under the new system, recruitment is conducted in four phases: loco pilot notifications in the first quarter, technician posts in the second, non-technical popular categories such as station masters and junior engineers in the third, and Level-1 recruitments in the fourth. Vaishnaw said the phased calendar gives aspirants clarity and ensures timely hiring cycles.

Indian Railways' Rapid Expansion Push

The Railway Minister stated that work is underway to lay 36,000 kilometres of new railway tracks across the country. He added that once ongoing projects in Rajasthan are completed, the state is set to see around 200 new trains introduced. Notably, more than 50 new trains have already been added in Rajasthan since the COVID-19 period, signalling a sustained infrastructure push in the state.

Addressing candidates virtually, Prime Minister Modi said government jobs are not merely employment opportunities but a chance to actively participate in the country's development. He emphasised that youth entering sectors such as railways, banking, defence, and education will play a crucial role in realising the vision of a developed India. He also acknowledged the role of families and communities in supporting the achievements of recruits.

Minister Yadav urged the newly appointed candidates to approach their roles with a sense of social responsibility, saying employment carries an obligation not just to oneself but to society and the nation. He asked them to work with the spirit of 'Nation First' throughout their professional journey.
