Chennai, April 8 (NationPress) The leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and renowned Tamil actor Vijay has vehemently condemned the central government’s recent move to raise LPG cylinder prices, labeling it an unjust burden on citizens who are already facing economic challenges. In a statement released on Tuesday, Vijay remarked, “The decision by the BJP government to increase LPG cylinder prices is a blatant assault on the everyday person. As people struggle to make ends meet, this action will only exacerbate their difficulties.” He also rejected the Centre’s assertion that subsidies would be deposited directly into consumers’ bank accounts, describing it as a misleading strategy.
“This is clearly an attempt to deceive the public,” he claimed. Vijay accused the BJP of intentionally raising gas prices when the costs of essential items are already soaring. “With global crude oil prices hitting unprecedented lows, why isn’t the government seizing this chance to assist the populace instead of catering to a select few?” he questioned.
The TVK leader also directed criticism at the ruling DMK government, accusing it of not living up to its electoral promises. “The DMK had pledged a ₹100 subsidy per cylinder but has taken no action over the past four years. They make grand promises to secure votes and then abandon the people. When will this cycle of betrayal cease?” he inquired.
Vijay further cautioned that the public would hold both governments responsible for their shortcomings. He reaffirmed that his party, TVK, will steadfastly support the people.
It is noteworthy that Vijay officially launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on February 2, 2024, establishing the party as a platform against corruption and divisive politics. Although he opted not to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Vijay has confirmed that TVK will actively engage in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Vijay’s political influence has been on the rise. In the 2021 local body elections, his fan club, the All India Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (AITVMI), secured 115 out of the 169 seats it contested. This performance surpassed other star-led parties like Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), both of which failed to win a single seat. Vijay has made it clear that TVK will only align with parties willing to accept his leadership, indicating his ambition to be a formidable contender for the Chief Minister’s position in 2026.
