Vijay Diwas: Indian and Bangladesh Armies Share Sweets at the Border

Agartala, Dec 16 (NationPress) On the 53rd anniversary of Vijay Diwas, members of the Indian Army celebrated by exchanging sweets with the Bangladesh armed forces at the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP).
A senior official mentioned that this exchange of sweets served as a symbol of unity and goodwill between the two forces and their respective nations.
High-ranking military officials from both India and Bangladesh were present at the Agartala-Akhaura (Bangladesh) check post during this ceremonial exchange.
“This tradition will be a cornerstone in enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries,” the official remarked.
In honor of the occasion, the Army and various organizations organized multiple events across Tripura on Monday, a region from which the Indian Army launched significant offensive campaigns during the 1971 war, supported by the local populace.
Earlier in the day, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Red Shield Division commander, and other senior Army officials paid heartfelt tributes to the valiant soldiers at the renowned Albert Ekka War Memorial, located on the outskirts of Agartala.
In the evening, a cultural program took place at the Albert Ekka War Memorial, attended by Tourism and Transport Minister Shushanta Chowdhury, representing the Tripura government.
Numerous senior officials from both the government and the Indian Army were also present at this gathering.
A defense spokesman noted that the event highlighted the indomitable spirit and eternal sacrifice of the soldiers, igniting a sense of patriotism among those in attendance.
The minister honored veterans from Tripura who participated in the 1971 operations and awarded prizes to children excelling in various competitions held as part of the Vijay Diwas celebrations.
The minister emphasized the crucial role played by the Indian Army in 1971.
The event concluded with a communal Barakhana involving Ex-servicemen (ESMs) and troops from Agartala, strengthening community ties and appreciation.
“This celebration not only honored our heroes but also fostered a renewed sense of pride and commitment to carry forward their legacy among all attendees,” stated the spokesman.
